Description

Requesting the City to slow down traffic making a right turn onto Semmes from Cowardin. This intersection is especially dangerous for pedestrians or bicycles who have the right of way with a green light but who have to stop and watch for cars speeding off of the Belvidere Bridge. It would be preferable and safer to remove the dedicated right turn lane and install a "No right turn on Red" sign. Did you know pedestrians have to cross an eight lane road to get from one side of Semmes to the other?

Dear Citizen, Thank you for sharing your concern with us. I downloaded the crash data of the past 5 years for the mentioned location and used it for the intersection safety analysis. The right turn from Cowardian to Semmes Ave is safe and has not caused any potential conflicts. These roads were designed and signalized based on the most recent available traffic data, crash data, and other geometric characteristics of that location. the dedicated right turn will not be removed at the moment. We will keep monitoring this intersection and will take appropriate action when necessary.
