Description
The cross walk at this intersection has been very dangerous as cars speed by without regard for pedestrians — oftentimes cars actually accelerate in order to make the light. I've nearly been hit by a car and routinely run to cross safely. With children, parents and college students regularly passing by this busy intersection on foot, it's a surprise that the city hasn't yet remedied this extreme pedestrian hazard.

- Staff · April 3, 2024The latest nine years of crash data (1.1.15-12.31.23) from DMV shows one reported pedestrian crash on Lombardy St between Park Ave and Monument Ave. Lombardy St in this same area has sidewalks on both sides of the street. The traffic signal at Lombardy St and Park Ave has crosswalks and pedestrian signals. Lombardy St at Lombardy Place has a ladder bar crosswalk with pedestrian warning signs in each direction on Lombardy St. The traffic signal at Lombardy St and Monument Ave has crosswalks in front of the stop bar. DPW began the process last fall on planning an extension of the Franklin Street bike lanes from the existing endpoint at Belvidere Street west to Lombardy Street at Stuart Circle. The Lombardy Street intersection is an important part of the project. The community will have an opportunity to comment and provide feedback on alternate designs.
