Description
Between Griffin and Hawthorn Ave on Brookland Park Blvd there are no speed control measures. There are currently no crosswalks, curb bump outs, speed bumps, or traffic lights. The road is also extremely wide and doesn't have white stripes on the edge of the roadway, meaning that vehicles (including large trucks) go well over the 25mph posted speed limit. Please conduct a study and install a variety of traffic calming measures and crosswalks to protect pedestrian and bike traffic.

- Staff · February 28, 2024The Department is working on multiple projects to address speed on Brookland Park Blvd. Speed feedback signs are funded and expected to be installed in 2024. A detailed speed study between Hawthorne Ave and Griffin Ave is scheduled for spring/summer 2024. In the interim, neighbors and other concerned stakeholders should work collectively to: - grow a safety culture within the neighborhood and community gathering places; - increase driver awareness of people walking, biking and riding transit; and - promote safe driving practices by educating drivers about the posted speed limit and why speeding impacts the most vulnerable users.
