Description
Our family and all of our neighbors are desperately wanting a speed bump put on Hanes. Our street runs along the back of Obama Elementary where kids are picked up during the school year and countless children plan on this playground. The opening of the gate leads out to Hanes Ave (between Crawford St & Gladstone Ave) where people go very fast. At least twice a day we see someone fly by over 50 miles an hour. We would be so grateful for our children's safety if this request was fulfilled!

- Staff · August 9, 2022he North Central Civic Association wrote to DPW requesting a speed table on Hanes between Ladies Mile and Meredith. Our response follows: The City updated the City-wide Neighborhood Traffic Management Program (Traffic Calming Program) in 2022. Primary factors in considering speed tables include: - Crash history - Traffic volumes - The speed profile of the roadway - The length of the roadway segment - The distance of the nearest traffic control device (all-way stop or traffic signal or traffic calming device). will consider speed tables The crash history on Hanes Ave between Ladies Mile Rd and Meredith St revealed no reported crashes for a seven year period. The traffic volume per day is around 250 vehicles a day (24hour period). The measured average speed is 21mph. Hanes stops at W. Crawford St and at Brookland Park Blvd. The City is not planning to install a speed tableon Hanes Ave between Ladies Mile Rd and W. Meredith St.
