Description
Another accident just happened at this intersection. There is ZERO visibility for cars or pedestrians going across or turning from sheppard to Ellwood and the accidents continue. The stop for pedestrians sign lasted may be a week. More must be done for the safety of our community. Cars SPEED down ellwood like they are on the highway rather than a street where real humans and children and animals live. This is totally unacceptable

- Staff · January 13, 2022Ellwood is posted at 25mph with $200 enhanced fine signs. Curb extensions were installed on Ellwood Ave at Sheppard St as a traffic calming measure and to enhance intersection sight distance several yearsago. Crosswalks also exist at this intersection. The latest seven year crash history did not reveal any reported pedestrian crashes. No further actions are planned at this time. DPW had a federal safety project to install "STOP for pedestrians"signs at 55 locations selected across the City. DPW will evaluate the effectiveness of the new signs and the sustainability before installing more signs. VDOT is also planning an effectiveness study with three years of before data and three years ofafter data
