DPW follows the Manual on n Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) for traffic control. "Children at Play" signs are not listed in this manual, so it is not standard to install such signs. The Traffic Control Devices Handbook from the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) also pointed out why "Children at Play" signs should not be used, "Caution-Children at Play or Slow Children signs should not be used since they may encourage children to playin the street and may encourage parents to be less vigilant." To curb the fast speeds, DPW will further review this area to ensure proper speed limit signs are installed.
