Description

Three way stop sign needed to slow traffic at intersection of Fendall Ave. and West Essex St. Traffic continues to speed down Fendall Avenue in an attempt to reach the light at Fendall and Brookland Park Blvd. This intersection is particularly dangerous as the street narrows on this block and cars cannot navigate the two way traffic on the street without pulling to the curb to let oncoming traffic by. Parked vehicles are being sideswiped and pedestrians almost hit and killed by speeding drivers.

All-way stop installations must meet the criteria in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). This is a federal manual used by all fifty states to evaluate traffic control devices for streets open to public travel. I have reviewed this intersection and it doesn’t meet the conditions set forth in the MUTCD for all-way stops.
