Description

Cherokee Road, the main route through Stratford Hills, needs STOP Signs. The most urgent place needed is at the top of the hill where Cherokee and Meridale meet. There was just a wreck there this summer: a car flipped twice into the ditch. People speed like crazy down the hill, and it’s a bling hill, where the turning point leads folks to Chippenham. This is LONG overdue for our community’s safety. Cherokee needs more than one stop sign, but at the very least, Please install one at Meridale.

PW must use the conditions set forth in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) for the installation of multi-way stops. The MUTCD conditions are mainly about a combination of traffic on thefree flow street and the stopped street. This is basically how the MUTCD warrant works: - The traffic volumes along the free flow street (major street) and the stopped street (minor street) must be at a certain level for each hour for eight hoursof a week day to meet the requirements of the MUTCD all-way stop warrants. o Major street minimum requirement = 300 vehicles an hour. o Minor street minimum requirement = 200 vehicles an hour. - Both of these traffic conditions must be met foreach street. Meridale Rd (minor street) does not have the required hourly volumes to meet the MUTCD requirements for all-way stops. Cherokee Road has posted 25mph signs and enhanced fine speed finesigns. Also two speed tables have been approved on Cherokee Road between Forest Hill Ave and Huguenot Rd.
