Description

Request for a crosswalk to cross Evansway Ln at the intersection of Ashdown Rd and Evansway Ln. This will connect the north side of the neighborhood to the sidewalk on the south side of Evansway Ln. Currently, crossing the street is dangerous for families with young children and for handicap and elderly persons who require more time. The intersection is surrounded by blind curves from both directions and cars often speed on this stretch of Evansway Ln.

The latest seven year crash history revealed no reported pedestrian crashes on Evansway Lane at Ashdown Rd. A cursory review shows this intersection does not meet the national standards for a new crosswalk. Adding crosswalks alone will not make crossings safer nor will they necessarily result in more vehicles stopping for pedestrians. We had a positive change in Virginia this year about pedestrian safety. Now motorists must stop for pedestrians. Theold state law was a yield condition.
