Description

The intersection at Brooklyn Park Avenue and North Avenue often prohibits left turns. As such, many people that would otherwise turn left take the next left at Barton Avenue. Drivers speed up Barton regularly— despite the obvious indications of residential and pedestrian traffic.

A four way stop requires meeting the warrants in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). This is a federal manual that gives design standards for traffic control device installations,(signs pavement markings and traffic signals). That is why we have red, amber and green 12” lens in traffic signals and red octagon stop signs. The all-way stop sign part is essentially traffic volume requirements for the free flow street and the stoppedstreet to meet before an all-way stop can be installed. The intersection of Barton and Crawford does not have the traffic volumes to meet the all-way stop warrant.
