Description
Please add a Left Turn Arrow to the traffic light for Mosby St left turn onto Leigh St Viaduct. At rush hour there is SO much traffic coming on Mosby away from the MLK Middle side of the intersection that it is nearly impossible for more than one or two cars to make the left turn. It causes frustrated drivers to make dangerous choices. Saw a 16 passenger van go straight past two 3 cars waiting to turn left and it veered around them to turn left trying to outrun the cars going straight through the intersection from opposite side. Very scary.

- Staff · December 6, 2019• The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Left-Turn Phasing Mode Selection Guidance suggests that a cross product greater than 50,000 supports the use of protected-permissive left-turn phasing forthat movement. The higher the cross product, the fewer gaps are likely in through traffic opposing a left-turn movement. The higher cross product for this intersection was found between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM with the amount of 23,220. • The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Manual on Uniform Traffic Devices (MUTCD) warranted the use of left turn signal if five or more associate crashes occur in one year. Based in crash data collected by the Richmond Police Department only 3 crashes were registered at this intersection for year 2018, none registered as left turn collision. Request is not warranted. E-mail was sent to the Citizen with the findings\comments. Request will be closed.
