Traffic and Street Signs

Description

Central Montessori School with three locations, 2001 N 22nd and E Broad St, 323 N 22nd and 2107 Jefferson Av. We have children and families crossing these intersections frequently. While the City has put up a few School signs, for which we are thankful, we need much more signage, street painted crossings and crossing lights that stop all traffic when the button has been pushed. There are not even any signs, that I have seen in town, that say Yield to pedestrians on left turn

  The DPW Director responded to a similar request from Delegate Van Valkenburg in September. The Department of Public Works reviewed the request and will add another school sign. The City Pedestrian, Bicycle and Trails Coordinator advised that a 6 ½ year crash history did not reveal any reported pedestrian crashes in the area of Central Montessori School and additional signage has minimal effect on safety and yielding behavior. The operationsand timings at the traffic signals at N. 21st St at E. Broad St and at Jefferson Ave/E. Marshall St have been checked. Each signal operates according to the design standard and the signals have been re-timed to allow sufficient time for students to cross safely.

  The City wrote to Honorable Van Valkenburg in September on a similar request. Sign work orders are in progress.
