Description
Proposal to thin and seasonally maintain the dense knoll of trees on the hillside parallel to Oregon Hill Parkway directly extending to the south end of S Laurel Street. The dense trees obscure the sight lines to the North Bank Trail as well as across the James River and contribute to the declining health of intentionally planted mature trees in this area. This consideration is specifically to thin the dense vegetation on the hillside much like the City’s current and successful initiative to do so a few hundred feet directly to the east, while preserving the mature trees existing here. The overlook at the end of S Pine Street provides extensive appeal to pedestrians and visitors to Oregon Hill and the Va War Memorial, and it would be wonderful to extend this the full length of Oregon Hill Parkway. This request would maintain the integrity of the hillside while also improving the safety and natural beauty intentionally with low growth vegetation.
