Description
Please install a "watch for pedestrians" sign for drivers exiting the Manchester Bridge and turning onto Byrd Street. The pedestrian island at Riverfront Plaza on the southside of the intersection is extremely dangerous. Drivers exiting the bridge will look to the left to see if any cars are coming, but many times they don't glance to the right for pedestrians. They also fly off the bridge at top speed, and there is a blind spot for pedestrians until they're midway to the island.

- Staff · August 1, 2019n regards to pedestrians crossing the slip ramp between the raised concrete island and the 9th St curb on the east leg of 9th St and Byrd St. These traffic control devices exist now: - Marked crosswalk- Yield signs – two - Right turn only signs – two - “Turning vehicles yield to bikes” Federal, state and local law requires traffic engineers to use the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). Mirrors are not included in the MUTCDas a traffic control device. We feel the existing traffic control devices are adequate at this time. Pedestrian crossing improvements are planned with the Kanawha Plaza transportation and pedestrian access project.
