Description
At this intersection, heading west on Broad, there is a "No Left Turn" sign at the easternmost traffic light pole. One is needed, however, on the western pole. As soon as the light turns green, and a west bound car on Broad pulls into the intersection with a left turn signal on, the driver can no longer see the NO Left Turn sign -- it is now behind him, or at best, immediately overhead. Cars continue to turn left at this light, in part because of the poor signage. The first picture shows the one "no left turn" sign that on Broad Street, westbound, at 18th Street. The second picture shows that if you are actually at the light--let alone in the intersection--the no left turn sign is not visible. This morning and this evening, I saw near accidents as drivers turned left from Broad onto 18th, and I have no doubt that many drivers who make this turn don't realize that it's an illegal turn. The no left turn sign that exists is simply ineffective due to its location. Nearly a year and a half later, this poor signage continues to be an issue at this intersection. Either a properly placed No Left Turn side needs to be placed where it can be seen by drivers attempting left turns, or, if left turns are to be permitted, the traffic pattern, signage, and traffic light need to be changed accordingly.
