Description
I submitted request DPU19943 on 7/15/22. I contaced the city on 7/29 and was told to submit a form through this website. The manhole cover is in our backyard at the base of our deck stairs. We want to do some landscaping to level off where the steps land in our backyard and there is a manhole cover 8 feet from the steps, see photo. When I spoke with a representative on 7/15 he said it is possible to extend the collar to grade level but said it was best for someone to come out and look at the manhole cover. There is an additional manhole cover about 35 feet from this one, also in the backyard. As I said earlier, we want to level this area off so it is not dangerous for elderly relatives to walk when they visit but don't want to proceed without the proper authorization from the city regarding what we can and cannot do and future access. One solution from a landscape contractor was to build up the current sloped access to the sewer with brick or blocks and place the manhole cover on top of the landscaping to make the area level. Another contractor said just to bury it. I want to know what options I have to do this right the first time and not have to dig up our patio or deck if access is needed. I would appreciate your suggestions to our dilemna. Thanks
