Description

On Wednesday 5/18, crews installed 6 LED street lights on the 5900 block of Kensington Ave without notifying the residents of the street. This is concerning because these LED lights are so bright and so numerous, that the street looks like it's daylight in the middle of the night. This excessive light pollution seems like overkill considering there has not been any criminal activity or safety concerns on this street in the 4 years that we've lived here. The lights do not only illuminate the street, but have significant spill over directly into the windows of the houses on the street. This raises concern with regard to property values due to the unsightly lighting and the nuisance this causes to residents who now have extremely bright lights shining into their homes at night. I wanted to inquire as to why this was done without notification of the residents? Also, why were so many installed? Finally, is there anything the city can do to reduce/eliminate the impacts of these lights on the residents?
