Description

There is a manhole covering that is, or is close to 6" lower than the surrounding street pavement. It causes unneccessary damage to every single vehicle that drives over it and the number of vehicles that drive over it daily is astronomical. This lowered manhole covering is directly in the pathway of ALL vehicles approaching the Broad St 95 N & S onramp. Its location in the road (on Broad St right before the 95 N & 95 S onramp) makes it virtually impossible to avoid; vehicles cannot avoid it by hanging to the right or to the left of the lane due to its large size in diameter. This location has countless vehicles drive over and thus down into this specific lowered manhole covering all day long every day. I personally have witnessed several near accidents from orhee vehicles attempting to avoid the large lowered manhole covering. Vehicles attempt to avoid it by driving in the lane to the left of the onramp lane and then merging over/changing lanes to the right after they have passed the lowered manhole covering. If you are familiar with this location you will know that is a short distance to be able to safely merge/change lanes. There is also at least 1, if not 2 or more smaller, but still substantial pot holes very close in proximity to the lowered manhole covering on Broad St in the far right lane/the right lane used solely for vehicles merging onto the 95 N and 95 S onramp. This(these) pothole(s) is(are) large enough to cause damage to vehicles, tires and alignment when driven over. The pothole(s) location(s) in the middle of the right lane are also unavoidable when traveling eastbound on Broad St in the right lane. Fixing the pothole(s) and the lowered manhole covering would prevent unnecessary damage to hundreds of thousands of vehicles and would make the 95 N and 95 S onramp safer for pedestrians and motorists alike, while having an unnoticable effect on the city's budget.
