Description

A drain of the I95 highway, northbound lane (on the north side of Broad Street at the retaining wall - painted blue) dumps debris to the African Burial Grounds that negatively impacts the historic/sacred site. DPU Storm Water Personnel has assess this request and met with citizen Ms. Esparza onsite: Found: Retaining wall has weep holes in base of wall by design. Culvert found on top of wall (cast iron approx.15") appears to be for drainage. Wall were paint blue has water stain directly related to cast iron pipe location. Citizen advise that trash is located in may placed during site visit and not necessary coming from the drain found. This area appearsto be limited access area due to the close proximity to interstate 95 where maintenance will fall under VDOT. Heavy erosion found on south end of wall near the slope/wing wall. Not a DPU asset to address from initial assessment. However requestforward to DPW for assistance to determine ownership in regard to maintenance.
